What Is OpenedMic?
OpenedMic is a browser-based live audio room platform. A host opens a room in a browser and shares a QR code, link, or room code. Listeners join from their own devices, with no app and no account. One person broadcasts live to many listeners.
How It Works
Three steps:
- The broadcaster opens a room in a supported browser at openedmic.com/app.
- Listeners join from their own devices by scanning a QR code, tapping a join link, or entering the 6-character room code in a supported browser.
- The broadcaster stays in control. Listeners are muted by default, and the broadcaster decides who, if anyone, speaks.
See How It Works for the full walkthrough, or Browser-Based Live Audio for why no app is required.
What OpenedMic Is For
OpenedMic handles one-to-many live audio in settings where the audience listens on their own phones:
- Classes and lectures. Students listen on their phones. See Live Audio for Classes.
- Guided tours. Visitors can follow the guide through a browser without a dedicated receiver kit. See Guided Tour Audio.
- Ceremonies and events. Guests can use a browser stream as an additional listening path. See Ceremonies & Events.
- Conferences and panels. Organizers can share the stage mix with connected audience devices. See Conferences & Panels.
- Live talks. One broadcaster can send live audio to a connected audience.
What OpenedMic Is Not
OpenedMic is broadcast-first: one host, many listeners. To set accurate expectations, OpenedMic is not:
- a meeting or video-conferencing platform
- an everyone-talks-at-once model
- guest video or guest camera
- guest screen sharing
- more than one guest speaking at the same time
Approved Guest Mic
OpenedMic includes the Approved Guest Mic: a controlled way for a single listener to speak, only when the broadcaster approves. It is:
- Audio-only. No guest video, camera, or screen sharing.
- Broadcaster-approved. The listener requests, the broadcaster decides.
- One guest at a time. Never two speakers at once.
- Revocable. The broadcaster can mute or end the guest mic at any moment.
See the Approved Guest Mic page for the complete flow and limits.
Privacy & Setup
OpenedMic runs in a supported browser with these basic requirements:
- No app install. Broadcaster and listeners use a regular browser.
- No account required for normal use. Listeners join by QR code, link, or room code.
- Browser-based. WebRTC uses a direct media path where available and an encrypted TURN relay when the network requires one.
For how data is handled, see the Privacy Policy. For common questions, see the FAQ.
