Join a Live Audio Room by QR Code

OpenedMic generates a QR code automatically when a broadcaster opens a room. Audience members scan it with their phone camera and are listening in their browser within seconds — no app, no account, no prompts. This page explains how the QR joining flow works and why it matters for fast, frictionless audience onboarding.

What the QR Code Contains

When a broadcaster starts a room in OpenedMic, a unique QR code is generated for that session. The code encodes a direct join URL in the format https://www.openedmic.com/app?room=XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is the 6-character room code for that session.

Scanning the code opens the browser directly into the live session. The listener does not need to type anything, navigate anywhere, or perform any additional steps. The QR code is valid for the duration of the active room only — once the broadcaster ends the session, the room code becomes inactive.

The Join Flow — Three Seconds

1
Scan the QR
Point the phone camera at the QR code. Most phones open a preview link automatically — no dedicated QR app needed.
2
Tap the Link
The browser opens directly to the join page. No prompts, no sign-up, no install request.
3
Listen
Audio starts immediately. The listener hears the broadcaster in real time through their own earphones.

Why QR Access Reduces Friction

Asking an audience to navigate to a URL manually, download an app, or create an account introduces friction at each step — and each step loses people. QR code access collapses the join flow to a single physical action: point and tap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does scanning open an app or the browser?
Scanning opens the browser directly. No app is installed or opened. The listener lands on the join page immediately.
Does the QR code change between sessions?
Yes. Each session generates a new 6-character room code and therefore a new QR code. Old codes become inactive when the broadcaster ends the session.
Can I share the join link instead of the QR code?
Yes. The join link is displayed in the broadcast panel alongside the QR code. Tapping the link produces the same result as scanning the code — the browser opens directly to the live session.
Can I prepare the QR code before the event?
The QR code is generated when the room is created. You can open the room a few minutes before the event to get the code ready — the room does not begin broadcasting until you press MIC ON.
