Join a Live Audio Room by QR Code
OpenedMic displays a QR code when a broadcaster opens a room. Audience members scan it with a compatible camera app and open the listener entry page in their browser. No OpenedMic app or account is required. This page explains the entry path and its fallback options.
What the QR Code Contains
When a broadcaster starts a room in OpenedMic, a unique QR code is generated for that session. The code encodes a direct join URL in the format https://www.openedmic.com/app?room=XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is the 6-character room code for that session.
Scanning the code opens the room entry page with the six-character room code already filled in. The listener may still need to enter a display name, provide a private-room password, or confirm playback. The QR code remains valid only while that room is active. When the broadcaster ends the session, the code becomes inactive.
The Join Flow
Why QR Access Reduces Friction
A QR code removes the need to type the site address and room code. It opens the correct entry page, while keeping the required name, password, and playback steps visible when they apply.
- Scan and open the room entry page
- No URL to type or remember
- No app store visit
- No account or sign-up screen
- Compatible camera scan or shared-link fallback
- One room-entry page
- Type URL or search app store
- Find and navigate to the right page
- Wait for app download
- Create or log into account
- Navigate to the session inside the app
- Adds installation and account steps before room entry
Where to Display the QR Code
OpenedMic lets the broadcaster display, copy, or share the QR code in multiple ways:
- On a projector or screen: display the QR code from the broadcast panel at the start of the session
- In a program or handout: include the current room QR code after the room has been created
- In a message: share the room link while the room is active
- At the entrance: print or display the current code for participants to scan as they arrive
