Terms of Service

LAST UPDATED: APRIL 2026

Scope: These terms apply to use of www.openedmic.com — the public website and live audio broadcasting service operated by OpenedMic. By using OpenedMic you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. For how your data is handled, see the Privacy Policy.

1. What OpenedMic Is

OpenedMic is a browser-based live audio and (optionally) video broadcasting service. A broadcaster opens a room from any modern browser; listeners join by room code, QR scan, or direct link. No account or installation is required to use the service.

The service is offered as-is and as-available. Features, capacity, broadcast modes, and availability may change over time without prior notice.

2. No Account, No Fee

OpenedMic does not require registration, does not store personal data, and does not currently charge a fee to open or join a room. You are free to use the service within the limits described in these terms and in the Privacy Policy.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use OpenedMic to:

Broadcasters are responsible for the content they transmit. Listeners are responsible for their participation in chat and reactions where enabled. The service operator reserves the right to restrict or terminate access for users who violate these terms.

4. Privacy and Data

Your use of OpenedMic is also governed by the Privacy Policy, which describes what is — and is not — collected, stored, and processed. In short: OpenedMic does not require accounts, does not store chat or audio content, and does not collect personal identifiers in its analytics or logs. Please review the Privacy Policy for the full details.

5. Rooms Are Ephemeral

Rooms exist only while an active broadcast session is running. When a broadcaster ends the session, or disconnects without reconnecting within the grace window, the room is destroyed and all listeners are disconnected. Rooms do not persist across sessions and cannot be archived on the service itself. If you need a recording, the broadcaster can use the built-in local recording feature, which saves audio to their own device only.

6. Broadcaster Tools

Broadcasters can remove or block disruptive listeners. These tools are provided to support the broadcaster's session; they are not a content-moderation system for the wider internet. The service operator does not actively moderate or review live room content.

7. Private Rooms

Broadcasters may create private rooms protected by a password. Passwords are hashed in server memory for the lifetime of the room and are never persisted to disk. The service operator does not have a way to recover or reveal a forgotten room password. Share the password only with listeners you trust.

8. Availability and Outages

OpenedMic is provided on a best-effort basis and is not guaranteed to be available at all times. The service may be unavailable or degraded due to maintenance, infrastructure issues, cold starts, network conditions, or causes outside of the operator's control. The operator does not guarantee specific uptime, latency, throughput, or quality targets for free use.

9. Third-Party Services

OpenedMic depends on third-party services for hosting (Render.com), content delivery and DNS (Cloudflare), and WebRTC relay (Metered.live). Use of OpenedMic implies acceptance of those providers' terms as they apply to the underlying transport. Details are listed in the Privacy Policy.

10. No Warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. No advice or information obtained from the service creates any warranty not expressly stated here.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) use or inability to use the service, (b) any content transmitted through the service, (c) unauthorized access to or alteration of transmissions, or (d) any other matter relating to the service. The service is provided free of charge; you accept that the operator's aggregate liability in connection with the service is strictly limited.

12. Changes to the Service

The service operator may add, change, restrict, or discontinue features, broadcast modes, or the service itself at any time. Where feasible, changes that materially affect users will be reflected in these terms or in the Privacy Policy. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

13. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated as the service evolves. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Please review the current version from time to time.

14. Contact
